If you were to evaluate your company's critical business operations in terms of efficiency, how would they fare? Most of you, I imagine, would report there is plenty of room for improvement, but the overall consensus would be optimistic, given that SAP R/3 customers have ample means to optimize their financial, HR, and operational processes. Now what if you were to evaluate those same operations in terms of effectiveness? There is a difference! Minimize the time and resources required to collect your receivables, process your payroll, or move stock in and out of a warehouse and you ensure process efficiency. But what if it actually makes more sense to outsource collections? What if you are stocking the wrong goods? What if your pay scales and incentive programs are misaligned with your corporate priorities? These are matters of effectiveness. Successful companies obviously need both efficient and effective processes, and it is upon this premise that mySAP ERP is built. The capabilities to do things right and to do the right things come bundled with this release. This increased scope is an important distinction between SAP R/3 and mySAP ERP.

Think of it this way. SAP R/3 makes you master of all you purvey. You have your finger on the pulse of the operations from one end of your enterprise to the other. But effectiveness hinges on a real-time business picture that can also account for the constantly changing customer, supplier, and partner activities that line the periphery of your enterprise. To achieve this, many of you rely on brute force. With mySAP ERP, things become a lot easier. This ERP release comes complete with advanced analytic and planning capabilities. Moreover, mySAP ERP runs on the SAP NetWeaver technology platform, which includes SAP Enterprise Portal, SAP Business Intelligence, SAP Exchange Infrastructure, SAP Master Data Management, SAP Web Application Server, SAP Composite Application Framework, and SAP Mobile Infrastructure. Moving to this more expansive, open, and flexible platform places a lot of power and convenience at your disposal.

For one thing, all new SAP offerings are built on SAP NetWeaver, so they all can be easily integrated with one another and with other systems. Transparency and interoperability become a foregone conclusion. So does lower TCO. Improved usability and productivity gains that accompany a world-class portal are additional hallmarks of the mySAP ERP release. This means that executives, finance and HR employees, business managers, and partners can all work from a common, consistent, and pervasive pool of information and insights. And they can do this through role-based and personalized interfaces.

This is the kind of adaptive infrastructure that ERP solutions now require — a platform for real-time business processes and optimized decision making. This is how you ensure you are doing things right and doing the right things!
