It has been a year since the Austrian Association of SAP Users joined forces with the German SAP User Group (DSAG), and in that time, the Austrian member companies have already made noteworthy strides in furthering the mission of DSAG, now dubbed the German-Speaking SAP User Group.

Direct Access to SAP Through Specialized Working Groups

Building on the groundwork laid by the German DSAG, the Austrian group, which now comprises over 60 companies, has created and developed numerous working groups to enhance the relationship between SAP and DSAG members. The Austrian SAP users currently maintain seven groups: Basic & Technologies, Costs, Human Resources (HR), Security, Solution Manager, Business Information Warehouse, and, most recently, Business Process Management, which was founded at the first quarterly meeting of the Austrian DSAG on July 12, 2005, in Vienna.

The Austrian working groups, which enable member companies to exchange experiences and information, evaluate current technology, and address Austria-specific issues, continue the DSAG mission of communicating directly with SAP about their questions and feedback.

The HR group, for example, enjoys presentations from SAP on key topics like e-recruiting and employee self-services at their quarterly meetings. This group, gaining 40 participants in just one year, has already successfully influenced SAP, prompting the delivery of the 2004 income tax reform modifications four weeks earlier than planned. As a result, companies were able to implement and test these changes and perform quality checks sooner than expected.

The Security working group, which also meets quarterly with about 20 participants from 13 major Austrian enterprises, takes a workshop approach to its meetings, covering issues from SAP_ALL and query authorizations to Central User Administration and the Profile Generator.

Testing Theme Day

On September 15, 2005, DSAG held the Austrian group's first Theme Day in Vienna. With a focus on the topic of testing, the event served as a forum for the active exchange of information and experience between users and specialists. The Theme Day included live demos, networking opportunities, and commentaries on enterprise best practices, exposing members to the tools and functionality within SAP solutions that can be used for important SAP projects, such as support pack implementations and upgrades. Additional topics included test management with SAP Solution Manager, eCATT as a tool for testing business processes, and stress tests with SAP tools. DSAG worked closely with the Test Management Consulting team at SAP to organize the event to help DSAG members safeguard their SAP system investments.

DSAG Advantages for Austrian Users

Like members of the German DSAG, Austrian companies benefit from unique access to SAP through a direct SAP contact person and the ability to play a role in the company's future plans. Additionally, members may enjoy a 15 percent discount on training courses and seminars at the SAP Business School Vienna to further their professional development.
