FAQ #1: Why is SAP TechEd a valuable event to attend?

A: SAP TechEd is SAP’s annual technical conference series, held in four locations where community members come together to attend hands-on sessions, see product demos, hear from industry luminaries, and, maybe most importantly, meet face-to-face with the people with whom they regularly interact online in SAP Community Network (SCN).

SCN is a dynamic online community of SAP partners, customers, employees, and other experts spread across more than 220 countries and territories. Collaboration and social technologies allow our more than 2 million community members to build valuable connections. Each year, they meet in person at SAP TechEd to learn, network, and co-innovate. Attendees can choose from a wealth of available content and activities — from educational sessions led by product experts, to casual meet-ups with peers or fun jam sessions.

FAQ #2: Who usually attends the event?

A: SAP TechEd is designed to appeal to all IT professionals supporting the SAP NetWeaver technology platform and SAP BusinessObjects solutions, and this year we will have content for technology professionals interested in learning about SAP Business ByDesign as well. Our attendees work in areas such as web and application developmen t, IT management, business intelligence, systems administration, and design and architecture. Most are members of at least one of SCN’s five communities (available at http://scn.sap.com):

FAQ #3: What’s happening this year?

A: This year’s theme is “Instant Value. Sustained Results.” These four words say a lot. We’re committed to helping attendees cut to the core of the topics that interest them. Our attendees can instantly obtain value from the knowledge, skills, and relationships they gain at SAP TechEd — value that remains relevant for the future.

We’re excited about the features of the 2010 event. This year, look for:

  • Expert networking sessions: Have a face-to-face conversation with an expert.
  • Exhibit hall and interactive stations: Learn how partners and customers are using SAP technology today.
  • Community Clubhouse: Meet up, learn, and recharge at the hub of SAP TechEd.
  • Demo Jam: Choose your favorite demo at SAP’s live “Geeks Got Talent” developer competition.
  • Attendee Appreciation Night: See how we celebrate our attendees throughout the event, especially on this special night.
  • Visionary keynotes: Hear directly from the people guiding SAP into the future.

We’re continually brainstorming ways to enhance the experience. For example, last year, Twitter helped us generate buzz before and during the event and share updates with attendees. This year, expect more innovations, like ways to make social connections ahead of the events to maximize your time onsite, and even more demos in lecture sessions. And, of course, you’ll have the chance to “learn by doing” in our hands-on workshops.

FAQ #4: What can you tell me about the educational content?

A: We offer sessions for any level, from beginner to expert, in formats ranging from product roadmaps to technical deep-dives. Expect to learn tips and tricks, share code samples, and see live demos. Attendees can build a customized agenda from hundreds of sessions organized by seven tracks and 29 sub tracks (see Figure 1). All full conference attendees have the opportunity to reserve a spot in two hands-on workshops, where they can use the technology and follow along with the presenter in real time. Plus, all attendees receive a free subscription to Virtual SAP TechEd, which offers access to years of archived sessions for later reference.
