Derive Maximum Value from Your IT Environment with SAP Solution Manager 7.1 Mobile Apps

In this article, you’ll learn about mobile apps for SAP Solution Manager and how they can help you further optimize both your core business processes and your IT infrastructure to get the most from your SAP investments.

Using new, innovative mobile apps for SAP Solution Manager, you can now mobilize your IT workforce to maximize staff responsiveness, cut costs, and take service management to the next level. These apps are available now to help you derive maximum strategic value from your information technology by providing users with an easy way to view and create incidents, accelerate approvals for change requests, and even monitor core IT systems, processes, and the end-user experience.

The following mobile apps for SAP Solution Manager are currently available:1

SAP System Monitoring Mobile App

SAP Solution Manager 7.1 provides a set of central monitors and an infrastructure that reports the status of the related IT landscape and automatically triggers alerts in case of problems.

The SAP System Monitoring mobile app allows administrators to monitor systems and check alerts from anywhere at any time, obtaining real-time insight into the availability, performance, exceptions, and configuration of important systems in the IT landscape. The app enables you to:

  • See status overviews of technical systems, instances, databases, and hosts (see Figure 1)
  • Gain deeper insight by drilling down into single metrics and events (see Figure 2)
  • Get alert details for deep-dive analysis of certain symptoms (see Figure 3)
  • View alerts of all systems, or just alerts of systems in your own personal group
  • Show single alerts or groups of alerts

SAP User Experience Monitor Mobile App

As part of the monitoring and alerting infrastructure of SAP Solution Manager, End User Experience Monitoring enables the evaluation and reporting of your productive systems’ availability and performance from a client-side perspective using monitoring scripts. End User Experience Monitoring proactively notifies you of critical situations, and allows you to react faster to alerts detected from the end-user perspective.

Administrators need to be able to analyze their global system response times anytime and anywhere. With the SAP User Experience Monitor mobile app, you can monitor the performance and availability of your global IT landscape’s technical scenarios right from your mobile device. The app can:

  • Show the results of executions for a monitoring script (see Figure 4)
  • Display step-level details and error messages (see Figure 5)
  • Show alerts for a script
  • Show the status of user experience monitoring robots that are executing scripts

SAP IT Incident Management Mobile App

IT Service Management in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 supports the process of incident and problem management for a company’s IT landscape and is fully integrated into many SAP Solution Manager processes. Employees need to be able to easily initiate and follow up on incidents at any time.

The SAP IT Incident Management mobile app offers an additional user interface for the incident management process. End users can create and track incidents right from their mobile devices. IT employees can view, track, and follow up on their assigned IT incident messages from anywhere. The app allows you to:

  • See the processing status of your incident messages (see Figure 6)
  • Drill down into incident details, such as priority, status, category, and log (see Figure 7)
  • Create, reply to, and confirm IT incident messages on the go
  • Attach photos and screenshots to incidents
  • Send information to the SAP Global Support Backbone

SAP IT Change Approval Mobile App

SAP Solution Manager 7.1 provides a comprehensive workflow-based change control management process for both business and IT improvement changes, integrated with project management, quality management, and synchronized deployment capabilities. Change managers need to evaluate and decide on requests for change, but critical information is often not available when needed, delaying the approval workflow.

The SAP IT Change Approval mobile app allows you to access and manage your change requests on the go for significantly higher productivity. Change managers are freed from the back office and can monitor and process change requests from their mobile devices while having access to all the information they need to make informed decisions. With the app, you can:

  • Easily see all of your assigned change management requests (see Figure 8)
  • View the processing status of requests and sort them by status, priority, and date
  • Access request details such as scope, assigned approvers, text log, and attachments
  • Approve, reject, and comment on change requests from anywhere (see Figure 9)
