SAP and Intel

SAP and Intel are two companies with years of experience working together. With a goal to drive the continuous improvement of SAP HANA and Intel Xeon processors, the two companies continue to foster their relationship. Learn the recent developments that have blossomed from this partnership, such as the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family combined with SAP HANA, and what this means to the enterprise.

With SAP HANA transforming the world of databases and analytics, Intel is a proud sponsor of the 2015 SAP HANA Innovation Awards, which recognize customers and enterprises that have found innovative ways to use SAP HANA to drive business value.

For nearly a decade, Intel and SAP have shared a history of rich, innovation-based engineering collaboration. The two companies worked together very closely during the development of SAP HANA, and the Intel® Xeon® processor E7 family is the reference architecture design platform for SAP HANA. We feel a deep sense of pride in the ongoing joint engineering and co-innovation from both Intel and SAP that drives the continuous improvement of SAP HANA and Intel Xeon processors.

In addition to our technology co-development partnership, Intel and SAP share other strong relationships of trust. Intel runs most of its business operations on the SAP ERP, SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW), and SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) solutions, and has recently migrated its SAP BW and SAP SCM implementations to its internal SAP HANA platform. From its side, SAP runs its business mostly on Intel architecture.

With the release of the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family, SAP HANA can deliver even higher performance, increased memory capacity, and advanced reliability to help businesses gain real-time insights for better decision making, improved operational efficiency, and a greater competitive edge.

More Real-Time Power for SAP HANA

With the release of the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family, SAP HANA gains a powerful new engine for improving transactional and analytical performance, accelerating real-time business insights, and optimizing core business operations.

By combining SAP HANA and the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family, businesses can open the door to bigger ideas and explore new possibilities with a robust in-memory infrastructure that features exceptional transactional and analytics performance and superior uptime and reliability. From our position at the forefront of advanced analytics, Intel and SAP are working together to increase mainstream adoption of real-time, insights-based business solutions for the benefit of our customers.

Intel’s new processors deliver dramatic performance gains to in-memory data processing in SAP HANA. With up to 20% more cores and threads, servers with the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family running the SAP HANA platform can support lightning-fast transaction processing and data analytics, enabling users to act on data in real time. And with more memory capacity per socket, entire datasets can be analyzed directly in high-performance, low-latency memory rather than in traditional disk-based storage.

Another technical advance that sets the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family apart is the addition of Intel Transactional Synchronization Extensions (Intel TSX). When used with the SAP HANA platform, Intel TSX provides easier multi-core programming and hardware-supported lock elision features that deliver the highest levels of in-memory transactional performance.

In addition, the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family provides more than 40 new and enhanced reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) features to help keep the mission-critical SAP HANA platform up and running. These features help increase uptime by providing capabilities to diagnose and recover from system and memory management failures or errors. This significantly increases the stability and flexibility of SAP HANA platforms, enabling them to scale up and scale out for software-defined infrastructures (SDI) and software-defined networks (SDN), and extend to the cloud.

SAP HANA Makes Many Winners

It’s exciting that Intel has been a part of this year’s SAP HANA Innovation Award and has played a role in the development of the SAP HANA platform. With the release of the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family, SAP HANA can deliver even higher performance, increased memory capacity, and advanced reliability to help businesses gain real-time insights for better decision making, improved operational efficiency, and a greater competitive edge. Kudos to this year’s SAP HANA Innovation Award nominees, and a very special congratulations to all of the winners.
