By November Gartner placed Android second in terms of worldwide smartphone market share. The operating system accounted for 25 percent of the market in the third quarter. In the previous year Android accounted for only about 3.5 percent of the worldwide smartphone market.
In 2011 the malware scene may see some new trends that turn previously safe platforms into targets. McAfee is particularly worried about the threat posed by location-based services, which could allow cyber-crooks to pinpoint a user's exact location.
