The internet is abuzz with rumors that Google is about to unveil a new social networking site to rival Facebook after Digg co-founder and general gossip Kevin Rose tweeted: "Ok, umm, huge rumor: Google to launch facebook competitor very soon "Google Me", very credible source"
Ok, umm, I’m excited.
With all the privacy issues Facebook has been having lately, I for one would welcome a Google-made replacement for the site. Admittedly, Google itself has had its fair share of privacy issues: when the site released Google Buzz, it initially broadcast your entire contacts list to the world until you checked off a box that forbid it. But I think Google is more resilient when it comes to bouncing back from flubs like that, so I have faith that they’ve learned what boundaries people want and would pick up where Facebook has time and time again left off in terms of protecting users’ privacy.
PCWorld speculates about what the new features Google’s new site will have here. Who knows what the new site will offer us, but I know I’ll be jumping on that bandwagon as soon as it goes live.
