I was reading a USA Today article this morning, "Survey: More companies plan travel to help boost sales," which was good news to me, as our conferences are the best chances I have to meet authors, find new content, and learn about trends in the SAP space.
I know I have been fortunate enough to travel twice so far this spring: to our SAP NetWeaver BI/Portals 2010 conference and to the upcoming SAPPHIRENOW event next week. (I wonder if Sir Richard wants to hear about my recent volcano experience with Virigin Atlantic? Probably not ...)
What about you? Have you found that your company has increased its travel budget? What events are you attending this year?
Some other tidbits from the article:
-- 27% plan to loosen travel budgets over the next 12 months to allow more trips to develop new customers or produce more spending
by current customers. In the 2009 survey, only 2% were willing to increase spending for those purposes.
-- 34% plan to restrict travel in the next 12 months for staff meetings and other internal corporate purposes, vs. 81% last year.
-- 35% plan over the next 12 months to restrict travel to industry conferences and events where employees can meet and mingle with current and potential clients. That's down from 79% who said they were restricting such travel a year ago.
