Often times out tasking your next SAP project can not only offer a great deal of relief to your internal IT team but will also provide the experience needed to perform the project on time and under budget.
Recently IT teams have been forced to work in smaller numbers due to tighter budgets. Team members may start to feel overwhelmed as they take on more and more project work along with their day to day duties. Their time management becomes even more complex with most one-time SAP projects as every project lends itself to new and complex problems. The increased functionality on Solution Manager and the move from upgrades to enhancement packs have proven that no two SAP projects are the same. To keep up with these changes you will probably need to send internal staff to training. But the big question is how often will your internal staff be completing a SAP upgrade or other one-time project? Is it worth sending them off to training for something they may never do again – especially if the upgrade process keeps changing? This may not be the best way to utilize your training dollars. On the flip side, out tasking will bring the depth of knowledge and experience that you need.
Out tasking will provide someone (or a team) who has most likely been through a handful of the most up to date upgrades and/or other major SAP projects. Their experience will keep the timeline on track and in the long run will probably end up saving you time and money. Out tasking will also free up your internal staff for more strategic work and will give everyone in your internal IT team focused on their day to day work.
