A jam-packed keynote, lots of first-time attendees, and good energy at SAP TechEd Las Vegas suggest that SAP is regaining some of the momentum lost during the economic downturn. Nearly everyone I spoke with said their companies had active or planned SAP projects. There was much talk about hiring new staff.
More important, SAP is effectively addressing concerns about its product roadmap, primarily around cloud computing, mobility apps, and in-memory computing. CTO Vishal Sikka also reaffirmed SAP's commitment to Java. Although he did not mention ABAP once in his keynote address, he did emphasize that SAP is still strongly committed to developing and supporting ABAP for the foreseeable future.
