This HR tip comes directly from a presentation I am delivering called “An up-to-date guide to leveraging the latest SAP functionality for employee self-service (ESS) and manager self-service (MSS)” at the upcoming HR 2011 event 7-9 June in Amsterdam. See you in Amsterdam!

Foundational Components can be brokwn down into Back end and front end components:

Back end

  • SAP ERP HCM functionality: SAP ERP 6.0
  • ?Enhancement package 4 - Currently available
  • Enhancement package 5 - Generally available June 2011 (estimate)

Front end

  • SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.0 - Pre-packaged portal content available for employees, managers, and HR professionals
  • Other Portal (Microsoft SharePoint, WebSphere, etc.)
  • ?SAP NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC)


SAP Interactive Forms software by Adobe

  • Strategic SAP partnership
  • Basis for HCM Processes and Forms


SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (SAP NetWeaver PI)

  • Connects SAP to SAP systems. For example, new hire scenario between SAP and SAP E-Recruiting
  • Connects SAP and non-SAP systems


Internal ITS

  • Replaces the standalone, external ITS
  • Some older “PZ*” transactions now need development since flow logic is not supported

Organizational Management

  • Your organizational structure should be built from an HR perspective
  • Chief relationships (A012) identified on positions to represent managers
  • Position-to-position reporting relationships cannot be leveraged as easily
