A lot of companies are trying to get more business intelligence into the hands of their end users to help employees make data-driven decisions. It’s an exciting and game-changing trend, but here’s the rub: end users are an impatient lot. I know, I’m one of them.
In a lot of ways, our impatience is a product of the Internet. We’re just accustomed to things happening quickly. I had a great discussion with Dr. Berg about data speed on our most recent podcast (The Latest on SAP NetWeaver BW Acclerator). He highlighted some research that shows 14 seconds is about as long as most people will wait for a web page to load before clicking the back button. (I’m old enough to recall when companies used dial-up Internet and it literally took minutes for a web page to load. And when you realized the information you needed was not on that page, it was a few more minutes to click back to your list of AltaVista results and start again, but that’s really dating myself.)
But as Dr. Berg points out, the IT industry has made great strides in speeding up data queries and on the podcast he and I discuss how one of the latest innovations in this area—putting data into resident memory—has really changed the data-query game. Dr. Berg’s an expert on the role of SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Accelerator in this capacity and provides some tips on what companies and industries should be looking at SAP NetWeaver BWA and outlines some of the latest features of this innovative solution as well.
