The Latest HR Functionality Opens New Doors for SAP Organizations

The Human Resources organization is turning into a hotbed of IT innovation!

Thanks to the convergence of several technology megatrends including social networking, enterprise mobility, on-demand, and in-memory, the HR organization is really catching up and even passing some other parts of the enterprise in terms of its access to innovative new IT solutions. And nowhere is that trend more evident than in an SAP organization.

While the readers and contributors to HR Expert have certainly been aware of this growing trend for some time, for me it seems like recently, all the IT stars are aligning for the HR organization. Earlier this year, John Sweeney of the Society for Human Resources Management noted the trend when he told the Financial Times that “Human resource management is evolving into a more technology-based profession. For example, in many organizations, employees now see the face of HR as a portal rather than a person.”

And in this recent post, I highlighted the synergies between social media functionality and HR applications.

But this week my eyes were opened even wider to the level of innovation going on in the HR space when I interviewed SAP expert Martin Gillet, author of a new book from SAP Press entitled Configuring and Customizing Employee and Manager Self-Services in SAP ERP HCM. In the interview, Martin provides tips on configuring the Employee Self-Service capabilities in HCM and offers his thoughts on the impact SAP HANA and social media may have on HCM.

You can listen to my full interview with Martin here:

And for those of you who have more specific questions about Employee Self Service or other aspects of SAP ERP HCM, Martin will be taking your questions in a live Q&A her on the Insider Learning Network on Tuesday, August 30, at 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Registration here is free.
