Once upon a time, there was a lovely princess who loved to dance, sing, and talk with woodland creatures. In another kingdom, there was a lovely software suite that loved to report, dashboard, and analyze. Both were named Aurora.

Soon, the software suite Aurora will awaken and become known as SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 (the entire release including EIM, BI, and GRC applications) and SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence 4.0 (specifically for the BI applications, natch). The awakening of Aurora brings about many new friends as well as some new names for old friends. For example:

  • SAP BusinessObjects Analysis: Formerly known as Pioneer, this application replaces Voyager
  • SAP BusinessObjects BI launch pad: New name for Infoview
  • SAP BusinessObjects BI workspaces: New name for Dashboard Builder
  • SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards: New name for Xcelsius

In a twist, SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence keeps its name.

SAP has released several new videos that explain some of the features in SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0. This first one provides a quick overview.

Next, we delve a little deeper to look at the new search features in the 4.0 release.

Finally, let’s take a closer look at the new Universe Designer.
