When a new solution is introduced, what you often see trumpeted is the flashier improvements: user-interface differences, ease-of-use increases, or Web 2.0 connectivity, for instance. Sometimes the more techy features get left behind.
In his new SAP Professional Journal article, "New Features and Functions of SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards 4.0 -- for Administrators," SAP Director of Solution Management Ingo Hilgefort shows the capabilities most applicable for this new solution to the admin audience.
He covers four key components: data connectivity options, multilingual dashboards, auditing and monitoring capabilities, and platform integration for caching and performance issues. Here's a sample from the Auditing and Monitoring Capabilities section:
SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 delivers a vastly improved environment for monitoring and auditing your SAP BusinessObjects BI platform. This is the first release in which you can audit and monitor the events related to SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards.
Figure 5 shows the Auditing configuration dialog as part of the Central Management Console (CMC). You can see the stan
dard events that can be audited. For SAP BusinessObjects, you can audit the following events:
- Dashboard user: View, Refresh, Prompt, Logon, and Logout
- Dashboards designer: Create, Delete, and Modify
