A tip for verifying your Root Cause Analysis

by Scott Priest, Managing Editor

June 14, 2011

In Jim Baxter's latest Solution Manager Expert article, he provides eight tips surrounding Root Cause Analysis (RCA) that can help you verify that you've implemented it correctly. With all the complicated configuration involved -- which we've covered previously here and here -- it's possible that mistakes occurred, undermining the whole process.

Here's a sneak peek at one piece of step 6, which focuses on the SMD agent and the SAPHOSTAGENT installation.

Depending on which SAP Solution Manager system and satellite systems versions you are using, ensure that the correct versions of SAPHOSTAGENT and SMD agents are installed. For instance, for agents for SAP NetWeaver 7.1 with enhancement package 1 and SAP NetWeaver 7.0 with enhancement package 2, the system ID is usually DAA. For older versions, such as SAP NetWeaver 7.0 with enhancement package 1, the system ID is SMD. Table 1 can help you make this decision, but you should also check SAP Service Marketpl ace for the latest information.
