HR Reporting in SAP HCM Has its Own Quirks

On the surface, reporting in the human resources space might seem less complicated than other areas. After all, people are people, right? But in truth, HR reporting – and reporting in SAP ERP Human Capital Management specifically – is in some ways more complicated than other enterprise reporting areas, due to some back-end nuances and user-focused concerns.

I spoke with HR reporting expert Danielle Larocca of SpinifexIT this week about HR reporting with SAP ERP HCM and, as I expected, she pointed out some things that many HCM users may not be aware of.

For example, Larocca explained to me that ad-hoc queries are available in SAP ERP HCM, but are best suited for a quick lookup and not reused. For more robust reporting, SAP queries are the way to go. (And yes, she provided more detail than I have here).

Larocca and I also talked about the strengths and weaknesses of using BI/BW in HR reporting, integrating HR queries into other applications, and tips on security considerations in HR reporting.

You can listen to my entire conversation with Larocca in this podcast:

LIVE Q&A ON SAP ERP HCM REPORTING

If you’d like to ask Larocca your own question about reporting in SAP ERP HCM, you can do that during our live Q&A on SAP ERP HCM reporting here on Insider Learning Network on June 21 from 1-2 pm ET.

Check back in the HR Forum on the Insider Learning Network for details about the live Q&A.

And for more information on HR reporting, be sure to check out Larocca’s upcoming article in HR Expert expected to be available in the next couple weeks.
