The Workflow in SAP seminar in New Jersey last week sparked a lot of conversation among attendees currently evaluating or optimizing SAP Workflow to better define and facilitate their business processes. The seminar also provided a high-level overview of what constitutes an efficient business process and the qualities that make that process a good fit for the Workflow solution.
Among the three day event, several sessions seemed rise to the top in terms of attendee interest. One such session was Alon Raskin’s “Integrating Workflow with email, mobile, and non-SAP systems.” While the content outlining Workflow integration with email and non-SAP systems certainly generated buzz, the mobility piece – echoing a quickly rising trend in the BI world, as well – was a crowd favorite.
Alon emphasized that SAP Workflow is about getting the right information, to the right person, at the right time. In today’s on-the-go business environment, though, without leveraging Workflow via mobile devices, this goal is lost.
After providing details on how to integrate SAP Workflow with iPhones and BlackBerrys, Alon wrapped up this session with a quote from a CIO, summing up the benefit of mobile Workflow: “I didn't want my personal bottlenecks to become company bottlenecks.” With the ability to quickly approve requests from anywhere, anytime, however, bottlenecks are a thing of the past.
