Integrating Google Maps, SAP, and your iPhone for a mobile sales solution

by Scott Priest, Managing Editor

June 1, 2011

Every organization is looking for ways to make its employees -- and particularly its sales-focused employees -- more mobile. Whether it's a fleet of BlackBerries, iPhones, iPads, or any other kind of device, mobile technology is spreading through organizations.

Meanwhile, long-standing ERP systems still house all kinds of data. With more and more demand for accurate, timely data, these systems need to be integrated with the mobile devices so the data can travel in both directions. Using some SAP technologies, namely SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (SAP NetWeaver CE) 7.2, you can build solutions that integrate your SAP systems and your mobile devices in a way to meet your needs.

In addition to explaining the architecture and UI technology needed to complete the solution, Richard provides code samples to show you just how he developed

"a low-cost , tactical solution that could be rapidly implemented to give its Europe-wide sales force remote access to the data held within the back-end SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM), SAP ERP, and SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP NetWeaver BW) systems. The solution needed to work for desktops and the Apple iPhone 4."

Here's an image of what he accomplished:
