6 areas of improvement in SAP Solution Manager 7.1

John Krakowski, Jr. of SAP America (and technical advisor for Solution Manager Expert) delivered a session explaining the new functionalities to come with the latest release of SAP Solution Manager, 7.1.

John highlighted six areas of improvement that SAP was targeting:

  1. Solution implementation
  2. Test management
  3. Change control management
  4. Incident management
  5. Technical operations
  6. Business process operations

Most of the most well-known features of Solution Manager are being completely revamped, including Service Desk and ChaRM. ChaRM is getting a front-end overhaul, being based on the CRM 7.0 Web UI, and will also be fully integrated with Quality Gate Management, which is a functionality SAP appears to be hoping will be used more frequently in the coming release.

There was no specific answer for when 7.1 would be available -- Ramp-Up is planned for "around April", and John estimated that after the customary 4-6 months of post-Ramp-Up work, it could be generally available around September. Whenever it does come available, he recommended a two-system landscape, one for production and one for development/quality assurance.
