I have to admit that it did for a moment leave me scrambling for my HMO card.
People in white coats wearing stethoscopes. A patient lying on an operating table, his red nose buzzing, and people all around laughing at his misery as they poked and prodded for “butterflies in his stomach,” and his “funny bone.”
Red nose buzzing?
Oh, wait. This really isn’t a medical error waiting to happen. It’s a giant version of the classic game Operation, at Symphony Management Consulting’s booth here at the Solutions Showcase. The human capital management consulting firm is even offering $100 to the best "surgeons."
The Solutions Showcase is another name for the exhibit hall at the Financials 2011, GRC 2011, and HR 2011 conferences in Las Vegas, and this year the level of vendor creativity has risen to new heights. The tactics to draw people into their booths to have ERP-centric conversations include everything from familiar childhood games, to giant prize wheels, to elaborate demo stations.
Over at the SAP booth, there is the Demo Bar, where attendees are invited to check out the Financials and Enterprise Performance Management solution, and the Governance Risk and Compliance Solution Lab.
Over at Blackline Systems, an SaaS company, the slogan is “No More Bullsheet,” and they mean it when it comes to the financial close process. To reinforce their message, they’re handing out stuffed toy bulls. At Ernst & Young, check out the SAP GRC Sandboxes.
At the KPMG booth, you can stare down PGA legend Phil Mickelson as you shout “it’s in the hole!,” while sinking a 4-footer on their mini putting green. Well, actually, you can shout that at a giant picture of “Lefty.”
Sandpoint Consultants, who call themselves the “BPC Experts,” encourage you to drop your card in their bowl for a chance at Xoom tablet, one of more than a dozen drawings going on in the Solutions Showcase. Looks like there are also a lot of Apple iPads to be had.
This year’s event is also featuring some swanky-looking booths. At the EPI-USE booth, cozy up in the comfy chairs and admire the hardwood floor while learning about their HR/Payroll Implementation offerings. At PWC, there’s a dazzling red carpet, and red-carpeted stools that catch your attention.
Meanwhile, Panaya is going with a theme that seems perfect for a conference center located just a short walk from the MGM Grand Casino. The company that “Makes ERP Easy,” has a slot machine set up.
Not to be outdone, and last but not least, check out our new and very posh WIS Publishing booth, where you can spin the wheel of fortune and maybe even walk away with a nifty Insider Learning Network t-shirt.
If you’re here with us in Vegas, stop by and say hello tonight during the evening reception.
