I was watching the umteenth biographical special on Steve Jobs this weekend and no matter how many times I see the story of technology play out in front of me, I'm still amazed to think that in my life, I have been impressed equally by the Apple II and the iPhone 4. I watched it all happen right before my eyes, but it still just astounds me.
Even the way the story is told on TV is a reflection of how technology has impacted various industries. The early days are chronicled mostly in still photos of big mainframes while the recent technologies are highlighted in endless video clips.
First online and now mobile technologies have changed almost every field, including ours, the publishing field. We digitized the printing process. We brought our content online. And now we're bringing our content mobile. (Insert trumpet fanfare here).
This week, insiderPROFILES magazine launches its mobile app.
You can read all about it here, but in a nutshell, it's a mobile app that includes all of the content from the latest issue of insiderPROFILES magazine. SAP case studies, thought leaders, solution profiles, all on your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
It's an exciting jump for a magazine, but it's also a very interesting time to be producing content as well. You, our readers, can literally access our content anywhere now and that opens up a lot of opportunity. You don't need to have the issue tucked under your arm. You don't need to have a PC handy. Heck, you can literally access our content with your eyes closed via mobile podcasts (yes, there's one of those waiting for you in the new app).
It's a pretty amazing concept to consider when I take a moment to step back and think about it. But frankly, I don't want to spend too much time reflecting, because what's even more amazing is what might be coming next. What incredible new technologies you in the IT world will bring to the rest of us that will flip our industries on their heads, yet again.
Enjoy the new app!
