Business Growth Needs Structure. Three SAP Customers Prove It.

Expand or die. It's been the mantra of many businesses because growth brings the benefits that both executives and shareholders like. But growth needs direction. It requires some structure. And the right ERP platform can provide that structure so a business achieves more from its growth than just size.

This was something of an unplanned theme in the latest issue of insiderPROFILES. More SAP customers are realizing that having a centralized IT infrastructure and centralized operations can make growth much more manageable and profitable.

In the cover story for the latest issue of insiderPROFILES, Hasbro's IT leaders explain that the company's geographic expansion was going well, but there were more benefit to realize. So Hasbro got its newer regions and businesses up on its SAP environment by using SAP BusinessOne and achieved economies of scale never imagined.

Westinghouse Electric told a similar story. After a somewhat quiet period in its business, the company started seeing dramatic growth a nd realized its existing SAP infrastructure needed a major upgrade. So Westinghouse decided to reimplement its SAP environment, so it could "start with a clean core SAP environment, reconfigure everything we would need, and convert the data we wanted into that environment” says Dave Wasil, ERP Director for Westinghouse.

Science giant DuPont might be the most extreme case of growth without standardized IT -- it was operating 70 distinct and separate supply chains at once. As a result, "Each business was engaging with IT individually" explains Janice Reissig, Senior IT Consultant, DuPont. "And when it came down to it, we were doing a lot of the same functions and processes in different ways and, in some cases, with different solutions."

DuPont is the midst of a business process standardization effort and using SAP Solution Manager as one of the tools to integrate the IT that drives those processes.

Those are three shining examples of how the right platform can help make the most of the expansion efforts your company is targeting this year. If your company has a similar story to tell, don't be shy. Share it here.
