In this session, one of Insider Learning Network's longtime HR members shares tips and lessons from NUSs adoption of SAP ERP HCM EHP6 with HR Renewal 1.0, including discussion of skill sets, technologies, implementaiton lessons, best practices, and pitfalls.

This tip is taken from a section on two of the technologies to enhance the UI and user experience, each followed by a sampling of the results for IT and end users alike.

Floorplan Manager (FPM)

What?
Framework to support UI development on Web Dynpro ABAP; acts as a design template, which automatically ensures UI compliance

Why?

  • Increase development efficiency for floorplan UIs
    • “Code-free” UI
    • Generic and reusable UI components
      • Common functions: Navigation, transaction handling, messaging, eventing, data-loss handling, personalization, etc.
  • Prevent reinventing the wheel
  • Configurable, adaptable, and supports user personalization
  • Increase consistency across applications
    • Wide usage within Business Suite 7
    • Consistent and unified look and feel
  • Common Generic User Interface Building Blocks (GUIBBs)
  • Other patterns : Launchpad, POWL, Search Tabbed, Tree …

Personalize Work List (POWL)

What?
POWL framework – generic Web Dynpro component

Why?

  • Does not require knowledge of Web Dynpro ABAP
  • Ability to let end users define their own queries and “report variants”
  • Can “Web-enable” SAP queries
  • Extensively used in SAP HCM modules like E-Recruitment, Enterprise Learning, Objectives Settings Appraisal, Travel Management
  • Tight authorization control at query and work-list level via roles
  • Application logic and data selection is developed via a feeder class, IF_POWL_FEEDER
  • Configurable via IMG
