What ERP Strategies are Leaders Implementing to Achieve High Performance?

January 23, 2020

For the last several years SAP has been pushing to become the largest enterprise software cloud company. With maintenance on SAP’s current ERP systems scheduled to end in 2025, this direction is important for SAP customers to be aware of.

Robert Holland, SAPinsider’s Analyst in the Cloud, Security, and SAP S/4HANA space, says that SAP proved their dedication to this aim with multiple announcements in 2019. In May, at their sales and marketing conference, SAPPHIRE, SAP announced project ”Embrace,” a collaboration program with Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services and global strategic service partners, in order to accelerate customers’ move to SAP S/4HANA in the Cloud.

Later in 2019, during their Q3 revenue call in October, SAP extended their project “Embrace” relationship with Microsoft Azure to further accelerate the adoption of SAP S/4HANA and SAP Cloud Platform on Microsoft Azure. Potentially explaining this relationship, SAPinsider’s research has found that, after SAP itself, customers are more likely to be using Microsoft than other cloud providers. “This trend may be because Microsoft has more data centers available in Europe (a historically important market for SAP) than other public cloud providers,” says Holland. “They have also put significant effort into pursuing large enterprise customers.”

When deploying SAP S/4HANA, customers have four basic choices for where they will implement: on-premise migrations, a hybrid implementation with some on-premise and some cloud components, an on-premise deployment of SAP S/4HANA hosted on a cloud infrastructure platform, or a fully cloud-based implementation in either a private or public cloud. These all have advantages, but one particular group of SAP customers has found a way forward that allows them to deliver exceptional performance in their ERP systems.

Although some in this group are running their ERP systems entirely on-premise, they were far more likely to be running a hybrid or fully cloud-based solution. On Thursday, January 30, 2020, 1:00pm, ET, SAPinsider’s webinar SAP S/4HANA in the Cloud will explain this group’s ERP strategy to help others understand how they can potentially increase performance in ERP speed, availability, total cost of ownership, and ease of management.
