I was recently reading SAP's announcement from about a week ago that in the first quarter of 2010, they experienced a 12% increase in top-line revenue and a near doubling of profits. While this is great news for SAP as a whole, I particularly noticed that some of this success is being attributed to SAP CRM.
Specifically, SAP's mobile strategy is getting a lot of buzz. Their partnership with Sybase resulted in the March release of the new, user-friendly Sybase Mobile Sales for SAP CRM (as well as Sybase Mobile Workflow for SAP Business Suite). Many analysts are directly connecting this to SAP's rising revenue and profits.
As I start to plan the summer issues of CRM Expert, this news makes me wonder - how much will the popularity of SAP and Sybase's mobile CRM solution grow once it's released to the BlackBerry? (Currently, it's available on the iPhone and Windows Mobile smartphones, but an expansion to BlackBerry is planned.) Do you agree that this was a smart direction for SAP, and do you think SAP CRM will see a significant resurgence thanks to these mobile solutions?
Sybase Mobile Sales for SAP CRM works with SAP CRM 2007 and 7.0 only. I bet that this solution has the potential to be the final factor that pushes some companies to upgrade from CRM 5.0 or 2006s, as some of them (according to our reader survey from January) are still hesitant about upgrading to 7.0. Overall, I have a feeling that the combination of SAP CRM 7.0's popularity and Sybase's new CRM product are going to contribute to increased interest in SAP CRM this year.
