If you remember from a few posts ago, ‘John’ is an alias I created to refer to an SAP customer with a cutting-edge story. To protect the innocent, I’ve continued to refer to this customer (well, to be clear, it’s actually a different customer) as nothing more than ‘John.’
Now that we’ve got my disclaimer out of the way, let me tell you a great story about my friend named John.
John became a break out star at his company by achieving interoperability between two corporate portals (SAP NetWeaver Portal and Microsoft Sharepoint) for optimal performance and security. He told me about lessons from each phase of the portal implementation, from environment ownership to system and content optimization. John even shed light on their decision to run transactional processes on SAP NetWeaver Portal, such as advanced security features, while choosing to leverage Microsoft Sharepoint to modify content via collaborative features such as Web 2.0 functionality. Before our conversation wrapped, John took me through the technical and business benefits of using a hybrid portal, as well as the performance obstacles he and his team encountered and overcame.
