As we enter the new year, I want all BI fans to check out a 10-minute podcast interview I conducted with Dr. Bjarne Berg of Comerit recently. Click on the play button below to listen to the podcast.

Berg discusses where BI is heading 2012 in the following areas (listen to the podcast for full details):

  • SAP HANA – “Up to now, HANA has almost been like a teaser,” but 2012 may be the year people “use HANA for real,” Berg said.
  • SAP NetWeaver BW 7.3 and SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 – These technologies are now fully mature and there is no reason for companies to hold off on upgrading to them, he said. By the way, Berg held a web chat about upgrading to 7.3 that offers plenty of information for those who are thinking about upgrading.
  • Potential new technologies in the BI industry – Beyond SAP, Berg sees a general push for real-time data warehousing technology, such as offered by Oracle Fusion Applications.

Berg also talked about what challenges his own clients face in 2012, and what advice he has given them.

Over the next 12 months, I hope to meet many of you either virtually on the Insider Learning Network and BI Expert, or in person at one of our conferences, such as BI 2012 in Las Vegas or Milan. Happy New Year, everyone.
