December 16, 2019

This research brief examines how European companies utilize sales and operational planning (S&OP) technology, how and where they are achieving business benefits, and how their practices differ from survey participants in other geographic regions.

SAPinsider surveys show that European-based SAP customers have adopted the full SAP Integrated Business Planning (SAP IBP) for Supply Chain solution at roughly the same pace as the rest of the world (22% vs. 23%, respectively, see Figure 1), but European organizations are 32% more likely to currently use the SAP IBP for sales and operations application, specifically for its S&OP cloud capabilities.

In Europe, many companies use SAP IBP for sales and operations with inventory targets and the SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization component for execution in isolated systems with manual integration of strategic outputs from SAP IBP. In fact, Europe does have higher levels of usage of SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization, with 48% of European SAP customers using the component for supply chain execution versus 31% of non-European companies.

The full research brief explains the ways in which European companies utilize S&OP to meet their business needs, and how their practices differ from survey participants in other geographic regions.
